I grew up in a very musical family.  My grandma played a lot of instruments, but the piano was her favorite.  She taught lessons until she was about 90.  I remember her telling me when she was on her way to entertain the residents of a nursing home that she was "going to play for the old people".  She was probably much older than most of them at the time.  I asked her to teach me to play when I was 5.  She was reluctant because she felt that kids should be able to read before they began, but she gave in.  During this time I would play pretty much every instrument she had laying around including accordions and the autoharp which is what sparked this post.  Last night I was listening to the World Cafe and they played a song that incorporated Autoharp.  I didn't catch the band's name or I would post the song here.  I haven't heard that sound since I was probably 10 years old and it brought back so many memories.  Of my grandma and her house.  Of sitting in the family room playing her Autoharp. Of listening to her play.  She was an amazing woman.  I miss her.
